What is no poo?
“No poo” has nothing to do with what it sounds like. It is a hair washing trend.
The definition
“No poo” means no shampoo. It is a philosophy and method of cleaning your hair without traditional shampoo.
What people use instead
- Baking soda followed by apple cider vinegar
- Coconut oil
- Conditioner only, or products made for no-poo routines
- Water only
Things to know before you try it
- If you have a history of skin or scalp issues, talk with your healthcare provider or a dermatologist first.
- Baking soda and apple cider vinegar may irritate your scalp or disrupt its natural pH.
- Coconut oil may be hard to rinse out and can leave hair heavy and greasy.
- Expect an adjustment period when your hair may be oilier than normal.
For Black hair specifically, the American Academy of Dermatology recommends washing once a week or every other week and conditioning every time.
Wear a cap without sacrificing your style
Whatever wash routine you choose, protect the results when you put on a cap. Our patented natural hair hat adapter, Capizzy®, turns any fitted or snapback cap into a cap your hair can come through, so locs, puffs, braids, buns and ponytails stay uncrushed. Nothing is cut, and the cap goes back to normal anytime.
Graduating soon? Our patented graduation cap headband, Cappa® Band, lifts the mortarboard off your forehead so it sits back at a flattering angle and frames your face in every photo, whatever your hairstyle.
